In the upcoming weeks we will be featuring some of our clients who have pivoted their businesses during COVID-19.
We are happy to kick off our series with Noah Firestone, owner of Luxe Bistro in Ottawa. Noah has been in the restaurant business for 27 years. Find out how he recreated his business in a week!
How has your company changed because of Covid-19?
We went from tons of sales to no sales. From employing 30 people to 2 people.
What has been your biggest challenge during Covid-19?
To keep our head above water financially.
The biggest challenge is the rent. It’s a work in progress because not everything is clear yet. The programs are great but it’s hard to find the information and it’s not clearly laid out. I have been calling my accountants, Dave and Chris, to see if we are eligible for.
SIDENOTE: At Envolta we help our clients find out what they are eligible for and even apply for them, for a free consultation go here. What are your offerings or services at this time?
Because of COVID-19 we have pivoted a bit and created a Shopify store where people can purchase:
- prepared foods
- meal kits
- meats and seafood
- produce, groceries
- home necessities
- wine and beer
How long have you had the online store?
We started the first week we closed. We just had to do it, otherwise, money is just sitting on the shelf.
What are some positive takeaways from the pandemic situation?
Spending time and having dinner with my family.
What is one thing you can’t wait to do once this is over?
To be able to go out to public places such as stores and movie theatres.
What are you grateful for?
How quickly the government stepped up to the plate to offer financial help.
Do you have any tips for your clients?
Browse the website of restaurants that you like. See if they offer Uber Eats or delivery. Some restaurants, like us, have an online store where you can buy groceries and home necessities. This will help you avoid going to the grocery store.
What has surprised you the most from the pandemic?
No one could have foreseen how long it would last.
